Najas marina grows on the bottom of the lake, in the lake Sauka - at the depth of about 1 m. Like other species of submerged aquatic plants, they need good water transparency. The fact that new species of submerged plants can be found in the lake and the composition of the species is diverse which indicates a good ecological condition of the lake.

The researchers also found that the alien species Mute Dreissena polymorpha is very common in the lake Sauka, forming overgrowth on solid substrate, lake bed and native species, but feeding by filtering water particles (eg microscopic planktonic algae).
